A day and half High Plains Pasture to Profit Conference featuring stockmanship, stewardship, and sustainability. This event will provide regional beef producers with an educational opportunity surrounding practical cattle care, handling and facility design, Beef Quality Assurance, as well as topics pertaining to animal health, antibiotic stewardship, and environmental responsibility.

7:00 p.m. – Banquet Dinner - Keynote Address: Animal Welfare in the 21st Century  
  • Dr. Temple Grandin, CSU Animal Sciences 
Dr. Temple Grandin is an internationally renowned livestock behaviorist and autism advocate. Throughout her career, Dr. Grandin has contributed vastly to research regarding welfare and humane treatment of cattle and other livestock, specifically during the slaughter process. Her years of expertise and accreditation has led to additional research and consultation beyond meat packing businesses into general cattle behavior, facilities and handling at the feedlot and ranch level. In her keynote address, Dr. Grandin will discuss the impacts of how animal welfare improvements have altered the cattle and livestock industries throughout the world, and will provide her perspective on how the industry can continue to improve in the 21st century. Be sure to submit your questions for Dr. Grandin at the registration desk when you check in – questions will be randomly selected!

9:00 a.m. – Live Cattle Stockmanship Demonstrations 
  • Dr. Dean Fish, Ranch Manager, Santa Fe Ranch Foundation - Arizona
 
Spend the morning with renowned stockmanship clinician Dean Fish as he shares and demonstrates a variety of cattle handling methods. In this live cattle handling demonstration, the clinician will teach techniques surrounding how to read cattle behavior, how to teach cattle to respond to different types of pressure and will provide tips and tools surrounding “Low Stress Handling,” better known as effective stockmanship. Whether you work cattle on foot or horseback, if you have state of the art facilities or a basic wooden system, this session is sure to spark ideas to take home and practice on your operation.
